Builders Celebrate their Best Projects in BroomeWritten on the 22 May 2017 The building and construction industry gathered at a gala event in Broome recently to recognise the best residential and commercial builders in the Kimberley-Pilbara region for their construction excellence.Over 170 industry representatives gathered at Zanders Restaurant overlooking Cable Beach, on Saturday 6 May for the annual Master Builders-Bankwest Building Excellence Awards for the Kimberley Pilbara region. The event provided an additional cause for celebration as Master Builders celebrated 16 years of the Kimberley Pilbara awards being held in Broome.Master Builders Regional Manager, Dianne Gilleland said the awards were a great success. "The standard of entries was once again very high with impressive commercial projects adding to the regional landscape. We exceeded last year's number of entries, with many coming from locations far and wide throughout the Northwest that we haven't previously seen.""There is no higher recognition across the state for builders to be recognised amongst their peers, and it was a wonderful way to celebrate our 16-year milestone," Mrs Gilleland said. Commenting on the milestone, Michael McLean, Master Builders Director applauded Mrs Gilleland on her tireless work in organising the awards night for 15 consecutive years."Di's enthusiasm and dedication in putting these awards together in what can be challenging conditions, is second to none. She has made a significant contribution to our members and the wider building and construction industry in the Northwest," Mr McLean said. In addition to Master Builders' Director, Michael McLean, special guests at the event included Master Builders' President, Rob Spadaccini, and Head Regional Judge, Charlie Baggetta from Harvey who was honoured for his tireless commitment to judging in the Northwest region."Logistically, it's an enormous challenge to judge all entries, which can sometimes span over three weeks, yet year after year Charlie leaves his own business in Harvey, braving all weather conditions to complete the judging in a professional manner," Mrs Gilleland said. Rob Menzies from Roebuck Estate Developments was also honoured for his commitment, contribution, and support over 14 years to the Branch and its members. Thanks to Willie Creek Pearls, all builders entering the awards this year went into the draw to win a gorgeous pearl pendant necklace, with the lucky winner being Belinda McKenzie, wife of builder Paul McKenzie, PGM Constructions.It was Broome's Custom Lifestyle Homes who took out the top residential award for the Roebuck Estate Developments' Best Country Home for their property on Frangipani Drive in Cable Beach, while Doric Contractors won the Bankwest Best Commercial Building for The Quarter complex in Karratha. It was a big night for Doric Contractors who also won:Bankwest Best Overall Commercial Building (The Quarter, Karratha) Best Civil Engineering Work (The Quarter, Karratha) Commercial Industrial Building Over $20, 000,000 (The Quarter, Karratha) Excellence in Innovative Cladding (The Quarter, Karratha) Commercial Industrial Building $6,500,000 - $20, 000,000 (Karratha Central Healthcare) Excellence in Recycling (Karratha Central Healthcare) Excellence in Energy Efficiency (Karratha Central Healthcare) Excellence in Glazing won by Subcontractor Innovative Use of Building Congratulations also to Pindan Contracting who won Commercial Alterations and Additions Over $6,500,000 and the Silver Trowel Award won by Subcontractor M&M Masonary, both for the Dampier Community Hub in Karratha, along with Exmouth Builder DLR Building for Contract Home over $1 Million and Residential Alterations and Additions $100,000 - $200,000.
