A good habit going to Habitat Resort

My son has just turned 2 years old and to reverse the many hours of time lost with him I decided it was never too late to have a babymoon.  With just 2 days to relax and reconnect I chose Habitat Resort to save time driving out of town and with self contained cottages to measure the expense associated with eating in restaurants during a holiday. (and anyone with a 2 year old knows eating in restaurants is more torture than delight)

From the moment of checking in I felt like I'd just arrived home, but without the mess, chores and endless list of shopping and duties.  We dropped our bags in the cottage and set out to explore the gardens which included a row of fruit trees and herb garden all for guests to consume during their stay.  The winding garden pathway is an exciting adventure for the little one as it weaves around the cottages, BBQ areas and large swimming pools.  On the golf course side of the resort is a colourful playground where little one could have played for hours if I'd let him.

"Go and do some wallaby spotting," said Michael Leake the friendly resort manager.  Apparently sunset is the perfect time to spot these little creatures in the bushland bordering Habitat with the Broome Golf Club.  So off we trotted in what felt like a real bush adventure (as "bush" as I care to do with a 2 year old).  We pushed our way through the trees and climbed up the big hill to the most spectacular view of Broome I've ever seen.  And akin to Easter morning we spent the whole journey back searching for stray golf balls which was fun enough to compensate for the fact that our loud stomping probably scared all the wallabies away before we could spot them.

The next morning was sleeping, swimming, lazing by the Island Pool and exploring the gardens.  I was reminded how exciting a tree frog or row of ants are to such little people which comes with a joyful sense of appreciation for the small things in life.  Where one weekend is usually a race to Monday, last weekend felt long and deep, with plenty of time for play, lots of cuddles and a few movies in between.

In short the accommodation was immaculate, the surrounds were lovingly cared for and the atmosphere true to its title of Broome's premier garden resort.  While there were plenty of cars in the carpark indicating a high occupancy, it truly felt like there was rarely a person in sight.

This review was completely unsolicited, rather inspired by the absolutely delightful experience we had and just how valuable 2 nights with baby can be to one's mind, heart and soul.  I feel like I've just created a very good habit.
