Barnett criticises bureaucracy in Broome

WA's Premier Colin Barnett has criticised his own government's Aboriginal Affairs department for considering Broome for a heritage listing without properly informing locals.

There have been warnings from Broome Shire president Ron Johnston that locals are angry it will block development in the coastal tourist town and damage the economy.

The department has been criticised for not informing people and giving them the chance to respond with submissions before it started reviewing applications for 35 sites.
