Boome Shire elections October 21 - Call for councillor nominees

The Shire of Broome will host an information session on Wednesday 6 September for anyone wanting to find out about becoming a Shire Councillor.

Local Government elections will be held on Saturday 21 October this year, with four positions on the Broome Shire Council to be contested.

Nominations to run for Council are open from 7-14 September 2017.

Shire of Broome Chief Executive Officer, Sam Mastrolembo, said he would provide a presentation to the information session and answer any questions.

"This will be an informal occasion and a chance for anyone interested in representing their community as a Shire Councillor to have a chat, ask some questions and find out more about Local Government and the responsibilities of being a Councillor," he said.

Mr Mastrolembo said residents and ratepayers were also encouraged to make sure they were enrolled to vote in Local Government elections, with rolls closing on 1 September 2017.

The information session will start at 6pm sharp on Wednesday 6 September in the Shire of Broome Function Room, and for more information visit the Shire website at www.broome.wa.gov.au or call (08) 9191 3456.

The WA Local Government Association will also host a webinar for prospective candidates on Thursday 17 August from 5pm to 5.45pm with registration at http://walga.asn.au/Training/Our-Services/Webinars.aspx
