Broome Chamber launches 'Lunch with a Leader'

Written on the 10 October 2016

Broome Chamber launches 'Lunch with a Leader' Life is busy even here in "Broome Time".  All too often, events are cancelled due to lack of numbers.

In recognition of that fact, the Chamber has decided to trial a new idea to offer our members access to people who may be of interest to them.  The "Lunch With a Leader" event will enable people to meet visiting leaders and to have the opportunity to have a conversation with them something which often does not happen at larger events, where the guest speaker has so many more people to respond to.

The first of our "Lunch With a Leader" events will be held next Friday 14th October.  Our Leader is Erica Smyth, whose CV, according to a recent article, published on Linkedin, "reads like the who's who of science careers, with more honours and accolades than an Einstein prodigy".

The article can be found here:

Erica grew up in Geraldton and has never lost her country town approach to life. She is confident with a very down-to-earth approach, despite her many successes.

To quote Erica, from her interview with Terry Power on Linkedin "Leadership is all about people, it's not about building an LPG plant or widgets" she believes that leadership is everywhere, not just in the title, whether it be leading a small team, a fundraising drive or the construction of a multibillion dollar LPG plant.

Having worked for mining giant, BHP as a young geologist and for Woodside, Erica has seen her fair share of life in remote areas and she shares some of her experiences in the Book "Red Dust in Her Veins", which she co-authored.  The book was sponsored by Rio Tinto and raised more than $150,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.  Erica is an RFDS Western Operations Board Member and she will also meet with RFDS Flying 1000 Members during her short visit to Broome.

Enquiries about Erica's visit can be directed to Melva Stone at the Chamber on 9193 5553.
