Broome Farmers Unhappy with WA Government Decision to Award New Farmland to Asparagus Venture

The State Government has announced that Kimberley Asparagus had been successful in its land proposal for the Skuthorpe horticulture area near Broome.

This announcement had drawn outrage from rival applicants.

The company is a joint venture between Broome farmer Rusty Dredge and the WA branch of the Fresh Produce Group.

The decision has prompted four farmers, who also submitted proposals for the land release, to question whether due diligence was followed during the selection process.

These farmers have now formed the Broome Agricultural Growers Alliance and are calling for an investigation into how each application was assessed.
