Broome pearl-sonality a pioneer Pearling pioneer Bill Reed talks about his extraordinary journey and why the best pearl is the one that just walked out the door.

"Bloody thing," Bill Reed says, tossing a dismissive wave at a folded bit ofThe West's puzzle page lying on his desk. "I can't work out the nine-letter word for that one." It takes a fair bit to stump the marine biologist and Broome pearl-sonality at 84 he is sharper than a shucking knife.

Thanks to his trusty "personnel", Bill admits he isn't required to spend a great deal of time manning the front of the Kimberley-classy Allure South Sea Pearls showroom these days, only getting summoned when there's someone particularly interesting in store.
