Broome set to begin nbn network journey

Fast and reliable broadband is just around the corner with construction set to get underway to connect 7,600 Broome, Bilingurr, Cable Beach, Djugun and Minyirr homes and businesses to the nbnTM network.

Crews will be on the ground, checking pits and pipes, laying the fibre backbone to the network and installing node cabinets throughout the area, with people expected to be able to make the switch from late to early next year.

Construction is also currently underway in Kununurra and Derby covering around 4,000 premises. Many premises in the region are also eligible to connect to the nbn through the

Sky MusterTM satellite service which has been available to regional and remote Australians since April 2016.
nbn spokesperson for WA, Ebony Aitken said:

"This is terrific news for Broome and surrounding areas as it means the entire community will be fully connected to the nbnTM network once construction is complete.

"And for the first time in history people have a choice of speed, so I'd encourage everyone to discuss their specific internet needs with their retailer and sign up for the package that is right for them.

"By early next year, many local residents and businesses will have access to a network which is both fast and reliable; something that has been desperately needed in regional and rural Australia for many years.

"Currently more than five million homes and business in Australia, and 513,000 in WA are able to connect to the nbnTM network.
