BROOME TOURISM LEADERSHIP GROUP CALLS ON ALL BUSINESS TO TAKE ACTION

"We now know what we can do to make a difference in the short term and now industry and agencies need to respond.

"If we all focus on promoting the diversity of Broomes offerings (free experiences are as important as paid experiences), we can make an immediate difference to one of the major issues raised by the research.

"This applies to all businesses in Broome who benefit from tourists and can band together to reach people either whilst they are here or via our collective consumer contacts. I would love to see service stations, pharmacies, shopping centres, taxis, any opportunity we have to get a simple message to visitors, that there is so much to do in Broome and reason to keep returning.

"The BTLG will continue to work on strategies for achieving this in a phased approach and in addition to encouraging industry to do what it can immediately we are working closely with the BVC and its new website development which is already in the pipeline to ensure it delivers the recommendations set out by the research. The way consumers research destinations has and is constantly changing and the new BVC website is a great opportunity to ensure Broome is delivering that consolidated information in a modern platform that consumers want to use.

"Perception of cost is our other main focus.

"Everyone needs to get onto Steve Barret's Qantas mailing list to ensure we receive airline sales as early as possible and then redistribute to our targeted mailing lists. Qantas airfares to Broome are on sale 180 days of the year and distributing cheaper airfares will help to amend the current market perception.

"BTLG will continue to work with TWA and Qantas on potential new opportunities which have only recently been raised."
