Business establishment and growth promoted through Broome Business Survey

Written on the 17 April 2018

  • Businesses have until the end of April to take part in the survey
  • Feedback to date has already identified key issues and opportunities in Broome
  • Results will be used to support the development of new businesses, and improve outcomes for those already operating
The clock is ticking for Broome businesses to take part in a short but critical survey that will help shine a spotlight on both the challenges and opportunities for business operating in Broome.

A joint initiative by the Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and LandCorp, the Broome Industry Survey closes at the end of April and will be used to identify what local Broome residents and business operators find difficult to source and help create a blueprint to promote the development of industries in and around Broome that can fill the gaps.

LandCorp Regional Manager Kimberley Simon Proud said feedback already received through the survey found that two thirds of participants reported a problem in being able to source particular goods and services cost effectively in Broome.

"Key areas of concern highlighted so far include cost effectively sourcing horticultural supplies, local food processing, automotive/mechanical related services, clothing and electronic equipment," Mr Proud said.

"It's crucial to understand the challenges some of our local businesses are dealing with. What may be difficult for an existing business could be an opportunity for another looking to set up in the town. The result, a win/win."

Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Chief Executive Officer Elaine Jolliffe said the information gathered through the survey would be analysed by the BCCI and LandCorp with the findings shared to local industry and the community.

"We can then work together to look at ways to potentially attract additional businesses and suppliers that can help reduce costs for existing companies plus deliver the added benefit of new job opportunities."

Ms Jolliffe said the survey is designed to take between 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

"We think that's time well spent given the potential benefits," she said.
