Cashless welfare card for Broome?

The Federal Government is remaining tight-lipped about whether it will expand the use of a cashless welfare card, amid more reports of people dodging the trial scheme and the restrictions it imposes.

  • No decision to extend trial, Department of Social Services says
  • Broome joins Port Hedland in voicing interest about joining trial
  • Some welfare recipients allegedly changing address to avoid card
  • Year-long trials of the card are due to wrap up in Ceduna and the East Kimberley in March and April.

Durack electorate votes YES for same sex marriage

Australians have voted Yes to same-sex marriage after 61.6 per cent of almost 13 million respondents backed the proposal in the $122m voluntary survey.

In the federal electorate of Durack 7 of every 10 people issued a vote card responded with 59% voting yes.  That compared to the national 'yes' vote of 62%.
