Chinatown Revitalisation Headquarters Opens

Written on the 7 June 2017

Chinatown Revitalisation Headquarters Opens The Chinatown Revitalisation Headquarters (HQ) is now open for the public to interact with the project, seek information and discuss plans with project representatives.

Broome Shire President, Ron Johnston, said the HQ was located on the corner of Short and Carnarvon Streets at Paspaley Plaza and would also be used as a demonstration and display area for local artisans and businesses wishing to showcase their products and services in a dynamic space.  This could incorporate anything from micro retailers, events or gallery and studio space.

The project HQ will initially be open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 2pm.

"Through the HQ we are pleased to be able to put a 'face to the project' and encourage the general public to take a broader interest in the plans to revitalise Chinatown," Cr Johnston said.

"Having a headquarters for the Revitalisation project will encourage broader interest in the project through a physical go-to location, and we look forward to seeing the demonstrations of community activity through offering it as a dynamic space with local businesses and artisans."

'Activators' interested in using the Revitalisation HQ should keep watch for expressions of interest as advertised or drop in to talk about the initiative with a team member.

The HQ was officially opened last week with a preview event for Chinatown traders and landowners, following the second wave of workshops with the key design team bringing the concepts for refurbishments of Carnarvon Street and Dampier Terrace closer to reality.

The Revitalisation recently announced a new grants scheme which will make available more than $400,000 in funding for business and community initiatives that will boost Broome's Chinatown in the latest stage of the Chinatown Revitalisation Project.

The first round of funding is now open with $207,500 available for projects which aim to activate and enhance Chinatown's public and private spaces.
