Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia Consultation Sessions

Written on the 25 January 2016

The Australian Government's White Paper on Developing Northern Australian announced the establishment of a $75 million Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia.

The CRC will assist businesses, governments and researchers to work together to identify opportunities for business and growth in the north. The CRC will be industry led, located in the north, and have an initial focus on areas where the north has particular strengths, including agriculture and food. The CRC will build on existing research, expertise and networks to quickly identify areas where collaborative research can deliver real-world outcomes and commercial opportunities that will benefit industries in northern Australia.

Mr John Wharton AM, interim Chair of the CRC, is conducting open consultation sessions with interested stakeholders and participants in February and March 2016 to assist in setting the direction and research agenda for the CRC.

The consultation sessions will provide attendees with information on the objectives of the CRC as well as providing an opportunity for open discussion and questions.  Mr Wharton is particularly interested in gathering information on key challenges faced by industry in the region which may be solved through industry-led and outcome-focused collaborative research.

The Broome consultation session will be held on Monday 22 February.
