Crop research project aims to grow farm profit

An $11.7 million agricultural research project will investigate cropping systems for growing cotton, grain and forage in the Ord Valley.

The Northern Australia Crop Research Alliance received $3 million last week towards the initiative after a successful application by the Ord River District Cooperative for the grant.

The Federal money came out of the first round of funding from the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia.

ORDCO chief executive David Cross said the three-year project would start almost immediately with first trials to be planted in early 2018.
