Cruise Broome among recipients announced in Community Chest funding

The Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry was delighted to be notified that its application for funding toward Cruise Broome was successful as part of the Kimberley region's Community Chest Fund.

The amount of $27,200 will further support the Broome Shire's commitment of $50,000 over two years to administrate a governing body and build collateral specifically focused on attracting growth of the cruise ship industry.  In order to manage the dissemination of the funds, the BCCI has auspiced 'Cruise Broome' chaired by Shayne Murray of Broome Transit with a committee comprised of the KPA, BCCI, BTLG and private enterprise.

Cruise Broome has appointed Melva Stone as co-ordinator, who will be traveling with Shayne Murray and KPA CEO Kevin Shellack to the WA Cruise Exchange in two weeks to pitch Broome as an ideal destination for future cruise line potential.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman announced the successful recipients of the Kimberley region's Community Chest Fund, made possible by the Liberal National Government's Royalties for Regions program.

Mr Redman said the fund provided one-off grants to community groups, local governments and not-for-profit organisations to improve and develop infrastructure and services in the region.

"These projects will help to attract investment, increase job opportunities and improve the quality of life for communities in the Kimberley region," he said.

"Hundreds of diverse projects and organisations across regional Western Australia have significantly benefited from the Community Chest Fund in recent years."
