CRUISE SHIP CENTRE STAGE

CRUISE SHIP CENTRE STAGE

Congratulations to BCCI Member Liaison Officer, Melva Stone who has just returned from a cruise where she delivered inspiring presentations to passengers for the last ten days.

This is her story:

Wow!  What a steep and exhilarating learning curve.

Whilst public speaking is something, which I enjoy and have had lots of practice at, I confess to having real "butterflies" when I first stepped on to the stage at the Princess Theatre on board Sun Princess.  As I have told many people in training courses over the years, butterflies are essential, but getting them flying in formation is the challenge!

I have just returned to Broome after my first "gig" as a cruise ship Guest Lecturer and come back very enthusiastic about what I see as a whole new opportunity for me as I continue to grow wiser (not older!).

Many of my "butterflies" revolved around the technology side of things however, I need not have been concerned, as the production team aboard Sun Princess were amazing and I had absolutely nothing to worry about.  Obviously I had spent considerable time before the cruise preparing talks and ensuring they were backed up, but the friendly team I worked with just made it all so easy.

My subjects all revolving around life in outback Australia, were really well received and I certainly had the opportunity to meet lots of great people, with interesting stories of their own to tell.

Now, all of those years in such places as army Nissan huts in Marble Bar, being the first family in Newman in 1968, one of the last residents to leave Wittenoom and life in Wyndham as a child all bring an opportunity for me to share some stories, as does life right here in Broome.
