Cruise ship season starts March 23

The arrival of Dawn Princess on Wednesday 23 March with 2,000 passengers marks the official return of Broome's cruise ship season with an anticipated 13 vessels expected to dock in Broome.

First guests from the Dawn Princess are expected to arrive Chinatown at 12.30 with final return bus to the port departing 8.30pm meaning guests will likely be searching for things to see and do in the afternoon, and possibly an early dinner in the evening.

This year approval has been given by cruise agents to add a passenger drop-off at Cable Beach, meaning buses will ferry guests from the port to the Roey carpark, then Cable Beach and back to the port.

As an industry with considerable growth capacity and return to the community, the Broome Chamber is working with the Broome Visitor Centre, Broome Tourism Leadership Group and Shire of Broome on future planning to attract increased cruise ship visitation to the region.

On-board tour bookings for Broome have been finalised for the season, however the Chamber will be hosting an information session with cruise agents Abercrombie and Kent to offer information for any professional enterprise to enter that space for 2017 and beyond.

In the meantime the Chamber will be working with coordinator Mel Virgo for recruit volunteers for the meet and greet efforts, and assist business to make the most of the opportunity wherever possible.

All ideas for engaging cruise ship passengers are welcome.  Please contact us at executiveofficer@broomechamber.com.au or call 9193 5553.
