Elders honoured at native title ceremony

Past and present elders were honoured during the 10th anniversary of the historic Yawuru Native Title Determination in Broome last month.

Yawuru representatives and community members converged on Town Beach on April 28 to mark the milestone anniversary on the same lawns Justice Ronald Merkel handed down his landmark judgment a decade ago.

Nyamba Buru Yawuru chairwoman Debra Pigram said the occasion was not just a cause for celebration but also to reflect on what native title means to the Yawuru community and Broome.
