Fireworks and family fun to mark Australia DayWritten on the 5 January 2017 The Shire of Broome will again host a spectacular free fireworks show and family fun day to celebrate Australia Day in 2017. This year the alcohol-free Shire of Broome Australia Day Fireworks and Family Fun Day on Thursday 26 January will get underway at 4pm in Lions Pioneer Park at Town Beach, with water slides, bouncy castle, kids' entertainment, and food and market stalls. The fireworks show will start at 8pm with a live radio simulcast on Spirit 102.9FM and spectators are encouraged to bring a chair and torch. In the morning, Broome's Lions, Lioness and Rotary Clubs and the Roebuck Lodge will present the traditional Australia Day Breakfast with a $2 cooked breakfast from 8am to 10am also in the park at Town Beach, and the Shire of Broome will present the 2017 Community Citizen of the Year Awards and conduct an Australian Citizenship Ceremony. Broome Shire President, Ron Johnston, said Australia Day was an opportunity for the community to come together. "This is a wonderful time to welcome some new Australian citizens to Broome and to recognise those who contribute to our community, and the Shire of Broome in conjunction with Spirit 102.9FM is pleased to again host a fun, alcohol-free afternoon event that can be enjoyed by the whole family," Cr Johnston said. To facilitate the events, the Town Beach boat ramp will be closed from 6pm Wednesday 25 January to 6am Friday 27 January.
