First crops emerge from Nita Downs irrigation project With the temperature hitting 40 degrees and the smell of bushfires in the distance, the sight of green grass growing under centre pivot irrigation brings relief to the Forshaw family at Nita Downs Station in the Kimberley.

Damien and Kirsty Forshaw bought their station south of Broome in 2005.

With its eastern boundary facing the Great Sandy Desert, the 210,000-hectare property is made up largely of pindan scrub and runs a modest-sized herd of Brahman cattle.
