Ghost of Anastasia haunts Broome

Ghost of Anastasia haunts Broome

In an electronic direct email (EDM) to its database on the weekend Qantas very kindly promoted holidays to the Kimberley, linking to a pictorial of '5 things you must do around Broome'.

The pictorial suggests a drive up Cape Leveque Road, take a boat through Geiki Gorge, a camel ride on Cable Beach, spotting dinosaur footprints on Gantheaume Point and "Anastasia's Pool - created in the rocks by former lighthouse keeper which fills at high tide."

This picture of Anastasia's Pool enticed me to visit Gantheaume Point when I first came to Broome, I was baffled at exactly where it was when I couldn't find it.  Not long after actually moving to Broome I discovered it had been washed away in bad weather two years ago, perplexing as it was still being promoted in various media.

The Broome Tourism Leadership Group has started its list of 'things to see and do around Broome' which is proposed to become a central reference of information to be handed out by all business in contact with tourists, including Qantas.

It will be designed and distributed wit the assistance of the Broome Visitor Centre and available shortly.

It's intended that every single experience in Broome be listed on this document, and everyone is encouraged to send their suggestions to the Chamber for inclusion.

A reminder also that Qantas has encouraged all Broome business interested in receiving alerts to airfare sale contact them for inclusion on the distribution.  The Chamber can also share these contact details on request.
