Horizon innovation gives Power to the People

Since its launch on 4 December 2017, more than 300 customers have signed up to MyPower, an innovative new pricing product that is giving people greater control over their energy costs and greater certainty over their power bills.

Different levels of MyPower plans are available to best suit a customer's usage profile, with customers charged a fixed amount each month based on their historical peak usage and a low variable cost for each unit used.

The Horizon Power app enables customers to monitor their energy usage and notifies them if they are nearing their peak allowance, enabling them to modify their energy usage behaviour to stay within their plan allowance limit.

The majority of MyPower customers have shown they are able to stay within their plan limits and this is expected to lead to real savings on their power bills.

Horizon Power's Jodie Lynch said the key to MyPower is changing the habits of users to be more aware of their consumption and avoid unnecessary usage during peak times.

"Up to 20 per cent of our expenditure on generation assets is used to meet a peak in demand required only two per cent of the time,  often just a few hot days a year. MyPower has been structured to reward customers to use less power in the peak," said Jodie.

"By encouraging customers to use less electricity at peak times, we can reduce the long-term cost of our electrical systems - this is a win-win for customers and for us."

MyPower is currently available as an opt-in product for customers in Port Hedland and Broome.
