When Jack Burton was growing up, his parents had a slaughterhouse on their farm and a butcher shop in Morawa.

Fast forward about four decades and Peter and Gene Burton were in the Kimberley yesterday to see their son open an abattoir of his own.

The Kimberley Meat Co abattoir, built at a cost of about $25 million, is set to process more than 200 cattle a day and change the status quo for local producers.
