Kimberley abattoir to energise beef exportsWritten on the 11 September 2016 When Jack Burton was growing up, his parents had a slaughterhouse on their farm and a butcher shop in Morawa. Fast forward about four decades and Peter and Gene Burton were in the Kimberley yesterday to see their son open an abattoir of his own. The closed-loop business model of producing livestock and selling meat has not changed much since Jack was a boy. What has changed is the scale. The Kimberley Meat Co abattoir, built at a cost of about $25 million, is set to process more than 200 cattle a day and change the status quo for local producers.
