Kullarri Building takes out inaugural Working Together Business of the Year Award

The inaugural Working Together Business of the Year Award was awarded to Kullarri Building last Friday night at the 2017 Broome Small Business Awards. The Award recognises the contributions made by local businesses to creating employment opportunities for young Aboriginal people in the West Kimberley.

Working Together West Kimberley, delivered by Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry, funded by the Department of Training and Workforce Development, assists and recognises workplaces of choice to attract and retain Aboriginal employees to expand our community's local employment prospects and opportunities.

Kullarri Building is an Indigenous building company, located in Broome, that specialises in the construction and refurbishment of housing and other related infrastructure. It provides these services for both the Indigenous and non-Indigenous community and has undertaken a number of commercial and residential projects, including government housing projects throughout the West Kimberley region.

Kullarri Building has provided work experience opportunities for a number of Aboriginal youth associated with the Clontarf Academy, providing mentorship and guidance into careers in the construction industry. The company also promotes a succession into apprenticeships or traineeships for students that demonstrate a continued interest. Those companies provide a commitment and retention security to their employees, through permanent employment contracts for apprentices and staff, opportunities for staff development and career progression into leadership and management roles.

Kullarri Building believes in providing meaningful employment opportunities for aboriginal apprentices and community members by creating an environment, which empowers responsibility, accountability and a diverse exposure to all facets of the construction industry. With a culturally sensitive, engaging, professional working environment and the ability to promote local cultural practices, Kullarri Building are working together to support and expand Broome's local employment prospects and opportunities, delivering local jobs for local people.

BCCI's Working Together program is proud to recognise and reward Kullarri Building's commitment to local employment and youth employment and showcase the company as a local Employer of Choice.
