Madalah employment related accommodation offers peace of mind to employers

For many companies the prospect of employing a trainee or apprentice is daunting. Previous "bad experiences" do not help lack of commitment, absenteeism and lack of work ethic all cited as reasons not to take on young people.

Most companies do not realize what support is available for them in the decision making process of taking on an apprentice or trainee.

MADALAH is a not for profit organization, funded by the Housing Authority to provide safe accommodation, with on-site support staff to assist trainees, apprentices and students to complete their training and maintain their jobs -

strict eligibility criteria applies.

The focus at Madalah is on improving life skills for work and on independent living. Participants must meet expectations such as:

* Regular attendance at work and training

* Keeping the residence clean and tidy

* Connect with staff for support with such things as planning and budgets

* Respect quiet time from 10pm to 6am

* Being in the residence most nights, especially if working the next day

Staff from Madalah will liaise with employers and agencies in their endeavor to find suitable work for young people and to make the prospect of employing a young person less daunting.

For young people wanting to live independently and contribute in the workforce, it is vital for them to develop the life skills needed. Sadly, these skills have not always been well developed and the lessons learned at Madalah will be as important as those learned in the classroom or in the workplace.

Employment related accommodation is a vital "piece of the jigsaw" when bringing together all of the things which need to be evaluated and carefully considered by potential employers of young people.

Cited by Madalah as a great employer to work with, Brolga Developments and Construction Pty Ltd has clearly benefited from their relationship with the organization. Dene Purdon from Brolga Developments said "it is of great benefit to have Madalah assist us to mentor these young people through the workforce and reduce the pressure on the employer when dealing with the more sensitive issues, when we may not always understand the complexities behind them."
