Mayi Harvests rocked by theft of $12,000 of frozen gubinge in Broome

About 600kg of frozen fruit was stolen from a Mayi Harvests Aboriginal Corporation premises in Broome on Thursday.

Corporation member Wayne Barker said the theft had damaged both their supply of gubinge and their relationship with buyers.

"Your stomach drops out from under your feet because it took so long we're not making a fortune, we're just trying to establish a relationship with the market," he said.

"This is wild harvest you're really up against it in terms of delivering a consistent supply to the market place."

"It takes a great deal of time and effort and physical strength to be able to work in this heat and humidity to pick all this stuff.

"Then (to) package it, clean it and get it ready for market only to have it taken out from under your feet; it's very, very disheartening and gut wrenching."
