Mining and Resources Business Breakfast Wrap

Written on the 8 March 2018 by Broome Chamber of Commerce

Thank you to everyone who attended the BBCI and Dept of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety Business Breakfast this week. THE EVENT SOLD OUT!

Presentations from our major players in the region, including INPEX, Sheffield Resources Ltd, Buru Energy, Mt Gibson Iron Ltd, Finder Explorer and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, provided businesses with each of their projects updates and statuses, local procurement opportunities and a friendly face to the operations that will drive the mining and resources industry in the West Kimberley region.

Some of the key take home notes that were identified at this breakfast included:

  • genuine interest from these large organisations to commit to the industry in the region;
  • the opportunities for sustainable local procurement and local contracts over the lives of these projects;
  • the need for businesses to be listed on the ICN Gateway with an up to date profile (further information can be found at http://gateway.icn.org.au/ )
  • the opportunity for businesses to increase their capacity at the Kimberley Local Business Maximiser Program on 2 - 3 May 2018 (Click HERE for more information)

Local businesses were also able to ask key representatives from these organisations questions and seek clarification and an expert response in relation to a number of taboo topics.

"I really appreciate the opportunity to have my queries about hydraulic fracture stimulation answered. I can now form my own opinion on the subject," said one business owner.

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety also launched their Community Partnership Resources Sector Award which promotes strong guiding behaviour within the resource sector by providing a platform for innovative and meaningful partnerships to be showcased and celebrated.  This award publicly recognises outstanding achievements and leadership in building constructive community-resource industry partnerships that provide positive outcomes and promote strong guiding behaviour within the resources sector.

The Community Partnership Resources Sector Award helps build the reputation of Western Australian resources and extractive industry organisations that are working closely with communities or community groups to understand local concerns and issues, provide positive outcomes, and leave a positive legacy that extends well beyond gaining a social licence to operate. For further information about the awards visit the departments website.
