Minister for Northern Australia responds to BCCI re Backpacker Tax
The BCCI has received a letter of reply from Senator the Hon Matthew Canavan, Minister for Northern Australia, following concerns issued to the government about the 'backacker tax'.

The letter quotes:

"I note your concerns about the impact of the 2015 Budget measure on tax arrangemets for Working Holiday Makers.... the Government has listened to the concerns raised regarding the proposed tax changes.  On the basis of these concerns, the government has decided further discussion and exploration of options for Working Holiday Makers taxation is appropriate."

The letter goes on to explain a 'process to look at alternative, revenue neutral, arrangements that ensure Australia remains globally competitive in attracting Working Holiday Makers.  Minister Colbeck will also be seeking the views of industry and stakeholders.  Once a position has been agreed this will be presented to the Tresurer for consideration by Cabinet.'
