NAIF: 70 potential projects worth over $30 billion says Sharon Wharburton THE Developing Northern Australia conference is being held in Darwin this week with delegates coming from across Australia.

Sharon Warburton, the chair designate of the $5 billion North Australia Infrastructure Facility, said the intention of the concessional loan facility was to "drive long term expansion of the economy and population growth in Northern Australia".

"We all know we have incredible infrastructure challenges here in the north," she said. "Investing in infrastructure and connecting businesses is fundamental to success. We must lower the costs and sow the seeds for business to be able to grow.

"Already we have identified over 70 potential project proponents with an estimated total cost of over $30 billion."

Identified projects could consist of airports, telecommunications, energy, ports, rail, roads and water.
