National Broadband rollout completed in the Kimberley

Member for Durack Melissa Price today announced the rollout of the nbn network is complete in the Kimberley with all homes and businesses now able to order an nbn service from a retail service provider.  

Ms Price made the announcement at a special event held in Broome today where she unveiled artwork that has been created by students at five local schools Broome North Primary School, Broome Primary School, Broome Senior High School, Cable Beach Primary School and Roebuck Primary School on nbn node cabinets.

"The message for local residents is clear superfast broadband is here" Ms Price said. 

"The nbn will open up a range of new opportunities for businesses, allow students to learn and engage with classmates in virtual classrooms, and make it easier for residents in regional Australia to stay in touch with family and friends online."

With construction work now complete, all premises capable of connecting to the nbn will now be able to do so, while those in remote communities or on stations will be able to access the Skymuster satellite system.

"High-speed broadband is the essential infrastructure of the twenty-first century, and the nbn will provide the platform to deliver a range of economic and social benefits to residents and businesses," Ms Price said.

"Businesses in the Kimberley will be more productive as the nbn enables access to new online services like cloud-based accounting software. Students will be able to participate in immersive learning experiences, from their classroom or at home. And mums and dads will be able to take care of everyday tasks like accessing government services or paying bills quickly and easily online."

The Federal Government is rolling out high-speed broadband across Australia in the fastest and most affordable way, with every home and business in Australia to be able to connect to the nbn by 2020. Today, more than 6.3 million homes and businesses across Australia can connect to the nbn, and there are more than 3.6 million active users.

"More than 100,000 homes and businesses across Australia are signing up to the nbn every single month, and there are already 50,000 premises in this electorate experiencing the benefits of the nbn," Ms Price said.

The rollout of the National Broadband Network rollout will be complete in the North West by the end of next month. Currently more than 18,700 homes and businesses in parts of Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne, Newman, Wickham, Port Hedland and South Hedland can order an nbn service from a retail service provider.  By the end of next month the remaining 6,300 homes and business in Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Newman Carnarvon, Exmouth and Denham will be able to order an nbn service from a retail service provider.
