Environment Minister Stephen Dawson made the statement when he headed a group from cabinet, including Alannah MacTiernan, Dave Kelly and Ben Wyatt from the agriculture, water and Aboriginal affairs portfolios, at a forum in Fitzroy Crossing today kickstarting an election promise to expand Geikie Gorge National Park to the Fitzroy River.

Pastoralists, traditional owners, energy companies and environmentalists all attended the forum and although there were competing interests, such as Aboriginal culture, environment and job creation, there were also common goals and it seems most parties left the meeting satisfied.

Ms MacTiernan said the Government was clear no dams on the actual rivers which impeded the "flow" would be permitted but was open to other storage methods.
