Open your business doors to students during Careers week and Expo May 2-6

Broome's Education and Training sector, in collaboration with local industry and businesses will be shining a powerful spotlight on careers in May. A stake holder group, consisting of members of all these sectors has been planning these events since 2015.

Monday May 2nd through to Friday May 6th is Careers Week for West Kimberley schools. Teachers have been invited to create a careers focus for their curriculum delivery, and to utilise the various resources which have come together for this purposes.

Throughout the week businesses are invited to open their doors for students to understand career opportunities in Broome.

Kimberley Training Institute (Tue 3 May) and Notre Dame (Wed 4 May) teaching staff invite students to visit their campuses to focus on youth opportunities that exist in training or further study.

On Thursday 5 May Year 9 students will engage with Shell's Work Inspirations program and meet with potential employers servicing the resources industry.

Friday 6th May all schools in the Kimberley have been invited to attend a Careers Expo on the Broome Senior High School oval, where exhibits, demonstrations and personnel from a wide range of career based businesses and community services will deliver interactive experiences for students.

The Department of Education has prioritised careers information and discussion as important for children of all ages, from Kindergarten to Year 12. These events provide a focus for school staff to schedule career learning activities into their teaching activities for 2016.

An outstanding array of resources will be focused on this week, the day and the event. The planning group will look to further develop the concept each year to ensure that it can reach healthy sustainability and contribute each year to bridging the gap between school and careers.

All Broome businesses are encouraged to open their doors for selected groups of students to understand career opportunities available to them.  Download the form HERE or contact Kelly Strange.
