Pastoral shake-up wins key support
Written on the 18 May 2016
The Kimberley-Pilbara Cattlemen's Association looks set to support revised rangelands reform legislation which eases concerns about the abolition of the industry body with oversight of livestock operations covering tens of millions of hectares.
Lands Minister Terry Redman is standing firm on scrapping the Pastoral Lands Board, but has agreed to industry safeguards that satisfy the KPCA.
However, Mr Redman faces an uphill battle to convince the Pastoralists and Graziers Association and other major industry players such as Paul Holmes a Court, the Stokes family and Gina Rinehart that his changes don't do more harm than good.
