Qantas starts Broome resident airfares today

Written on the 14 November 2017

Qantas starts Broome resident airfares today From today, residents in select communities will receive a variable discount of up to 30% off the Qantas-controlled component of all-inclusive airfares as part of a 12-month trial.

Discounted fares will be available for personal travel to individuals who reside in Broome, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Paraburdoo, Port Hedland and Newman for return travel to Perth.

Residents can book through their local travel agent, or via Qantas' new dedicated booking site at qantas.com/residentfares. To access discounted fares, eligible residents need to be members of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program. Qantas is waiving the regular Qantas Frequent Flyer join fee of $89.50 and residents can sign up at qantas.com/freejoin. Furthermore, Qantas has placed advertisements in local newspapers and will be emailing town residents to raise awareness of the discounted fares.

With the exception of special fares, every seat available for booking is eligible under the scheme. The discounts are made visible during the booking process.

The discounted fares scheme was developed by Qantas and announced in September in response to concerns from residents in regional communities around Western Australia on the economics of air travel.

Due to the high cost of Western Australia's regional airports and in an effort to provide even greater discounts, Qantas approached the above airports to waive passenger service charges (excluding security charges) for residents travelling on these fares.

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will waive 100% of their passenger service charges lowering the Red eDeal fare by $97 and the Full Economy fare by $442*. Other airports have declined to participate. Qantas encourages all airports to join this initiative to help make travel more affordable for their residents.
