Shire of Broome rated among State's financially healthiest

The Shire of Broome is ranked among the most healthiest local governments in the State according to data released by the Department of Local Government and Communities, with a rating of 92/100.

The Department has launched a new website offering comprehensive data on the income and expenditure of the State's logal governments, www.mycouncil.wa.gov.au.  The site has been developed to translate in lay terms the performance of local governments for constituents to track performance and take a greater interest in matters of local governance.
The State average score is 72/100 with Perth rating 80/100.

The Financial Health Indicator (FHI) is a measurement of a local government's overall financial health. It is calculated from the seven financial ratios that local governments are required to calculate annually. A FHI result of 70 and above indicates sound financial health.. The FHI is one factor to consider in assessing overall performance. Other factors include: the range of services offered; efficiency of services delivered; and community satisfaction. A very high or low FHI may be a prompt for questions to be asked by the community about a local government's revenue, expenses and service delivery.
