Sobrane Art Spreads Wings to Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery

Written on the 26 February 2018

Sobrane Art Spreads Wings to Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery Renowned Broome based street artist Sobrane is spreading her wings and taking her spray paints to the wilderness of Cradle Mountain.

Sobrane will paint a flight of Yellowtail Black Cockatoos on a 24 meter wall at Cradle Mountain Hotel, nestled within breathtaking alpine forest in the central highlands of Tasmania. Work will start on the wall in the second week of March with an exhibition of Sobrane's signature bird inspired art opening at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery on the 4th of March.

Known internationally for her art with exhibitions and streetart walls in Asia and Italy, Sobrane has just completed a massive project with an artwork on the first silo in Victoria's north and is the first Australian woman to take on a silo project.

'I love doing the large walls and playing in a cherry picker! The mornings in Victoria up high against the silo walls in a cherry picker were like hot air ballooning with clear views out across the farms'

It's not just all about birds! Creating with lines strokes and marks on canvas, Sobrane has some very unique Tasmanian Devils showcased in this exhibition that have been created using coffee, acrylic and spraypaint.

'Exploring in new mediums is always fulfilling. Coffee gives the artwork an edge required for some animals, like the Devil' she said.

Sobrane is excited to bring her birds to the area. This will be the start of many different projects in Tasmania for Sobrane, having purchased a hall on the West Coast that was recently used as a studio space. This is where she created for her successful exhibition that went to Hong Kong's Asia Contemporary Art Show last year.

"Bringing my love for creatures out onto walls for the community to experience, whether they are large walls like the silo in Victoria or the smaller canvas as in an exhibition, is what it's all about and I get to paint!'

Sobrane will paint the wall at Cradle Mountain Hotel as part of a 2 week residency and exhibition which runs from the 4th of March to the 24th of June at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery.
