Sobrane to move gallery to Captain Gregory's House - calls for artists in residence

An unexpected opportunity to relocate into bigger premises will soon see renowned street artist Sobrane move her gallery into Captain Gregory's House in the grounds of Matsos Broome Brewery.

The stunning former pearling masters home had been used as offices for the past few years, but Sobrane recently seized the opportunity to bring new life back into the heritage building.

"I was rapidly outgrowing my other gallery space and when the opportunity came up to move into such a significant part of Broome's history, I couldn't say no," Sobrane said.

The additional space at the new gallery will enable Sobrane to realise her ambitions to develop a program of events and exhibitions as well as an international arts residency.

"The extra room is really exciting for me as I'll be able to exhibit more of my works, have more stock on display, and hold events and exhibitions all under one roof.

"An artist in residence program will be the first to kick off early in the New Year, which I'm really excited about.

"I've benefitted from several residencies myself, so it's fantastic to now be able to offer that in my own gallery to help inspire and support other artists in their practice."

Proposals for the 2018 residency program are now being accepted, and interested artists should download the application pack from www.sobrane.com.au or email gallerysobrane@gmail.com for further information.

The official opening of the new Gallery Sobrane at Captain Gregory's House will be on Thursday 14 December at 6pm, with the unveiling of Sobrane's latest exhibition, the Lost Art of Rome, which celebrates the adventures of her artwork on its journey to Italy and back.
