St Mary's art wins accolade for Shire of Broome

The Shire of Broome has won the secondary school category in the Banners in the Terrace public art competition with a design by St Mary's College Year 8 student, John Bill Quilisadio.

The annual competition has categories open to primary and secondary schools, community groups and professional artists. 59 Communities entered banners in the competition run by the WA Local Government Association.  The banners will be displayed along Adelaide and St Georges Terraces up until Saturday as part of the City of Perth's support for the Convention.

John Bill's Art Teacher, Helen Capsalis says "John Bill Quilisadio is a very talented and independent artist with original ideas that are always executed carefully and with patience. John Bill spent many lunchtimes working extra hours on his design for his banner. Once his design had been chosen by the Shire to represent Broome he spent even more time perfecting his painting and the final execution of his art work. John Bill is a worthy recipient of this award displaying how effort and determination can be rewarded."

The WA Local Government Association Banners in the Terrace public art competition runs in Perth each year as part of Local Government Week.

Congratulations to St Mary's, the talented artist John Bill Quilisadio and his Art Teacher, Helen Capsalis and Teacher Assistant, Carlene Smith.
