State grant for Ord crop development

The Northern Australia Crop Research Alliance was awarded a $500,000 grant last week from the WA Government to support the development of crops in the Ord Irrigation Area.

The grant will feed into a $1.7 million project for the development of top field cropping production systems which focus on big yields and the best quality.

NACRA is a collaboration between the Ord River District Co-operative, Kimberley Agricultural Investments and the Chia Company.

The group hopes through the project it will be able to quadruple the farm gate prices in the Ord to $55 million by 2020.
