Time running out to recognise outstanding citizens

Written on the 25 October 2016

Nominations to recognise Broome's local heroes in the prestigious Community Citizen of the Year Awards close on Monday 31 October.

Each year in Broome individuals and groups are recognised as part of the Australia Day breakfast at Town Beach on January 26, with Katie Bidewell, Tamara Albert and Kimberley Girl the winners in 2016.

There are separate categories for individuals, under 25s, over 65s and a community group or event, and for the first time this year nominations can be made online at www.citizenshipawards.com.au.

Broome Shire President, Ron Johnston, said nominees should be active citizens who had made a contribution to making Broome a better community.

"These awards are an opportunity to recognise the special individuals and organisations who make a difference in our Shire," Cr Johnston said.

"Broome has many outstanding local role models who would be worthy winners of these important awards, and I would encourage community members to take the time to nominate a deserving person or group."
