Western Australia's regional councils face wait-and-see over Royalties for Regions funding

As the McGowan Government prepares to put its stamp on regional development, residents in regional Western Australia face a nervous wait.

Since its establishment in 2008, Royalties for Regions has delivered more than $7 billion in funding to regional areas, generated by a quarantine placed on 25 per cent of mining royalty revenue.
Labor has pledged to maintain the program with Premier Mark McGowan and new Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan instead pledging new efficiency and a fairer share of funding.

"We will be delivering on our election commitments in regional communities using Royalties for Regions," Mr McGowan said on the campaign trail.

But leaders across WA's regional towns say its important the benefits generated by the funding are not under the new administration.
