Senator Canavan will be in Broome to visit INPEX's offshore operations and will be accompanied by Dr Heather Smith PSM, Secretary of the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science. Senator Canavan is keen to take the opportunity to meet local businesses in Broome and share the Government's resources and Northern Australia policy. As a Senator for Queensland based in Rockhampton since 2014, Senator Canavan has a particular interest in taking regional views to Canberra and encouraging people to move to the regions. Senator Canavan holds a First Class Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Queensland. He is married and has four sons and a daughter.
